The Traffic Eye, Lookism, and Voyeurism is a series of motion graphics that centers around the eye. I was inspired by the Peephole Cinema in San Francisco, CA. It is a tiny theater hidden in an alley that plays a constant stream of short silent films for anyone willing to peer through the peephole.

These next three animations are meant to serve as signage for this cinema, with this particular one located at the crosswalk on 26th St in San Fran. The area around this location receives high traffic, so this 'easter egg' is meant to play when the pedestrian signal activates. The missing pupil at the end of the cycle indicates the repeat.

Lookism is a South Korean webtoon that explores the themes of prejudice, materialism, and social hierarchy throughout adolescent life. The main character has the ability to switch between two bodies—one handsome and one unattractive. Lookism explores how people are perceived and treated based on their physical appearance. The webtoon started in 2014 and is ongoing. The eye in this gif appears from a message blurb, looks around and at the reader, and closes its eyes before repeating the cycle over and over again.

Voyeurism experiments with the uncomfortability of seeing. This is meant to be played at night or substituted as a loading screen near the Peephole Cinema to evoke the creepiness of the peephole. The activity of peering through the peephole to watch the films feels like crossing a boundary and participating in a non-consensual viewing platform.
